Getting Ready For Fall
“Love the trees until their leaves fall off, then encourage them to try again next year.”
You may be ready for Fall, but is your home ready? It’s not all pumpkin spice lattes and witches brows…
Living in San Diego we don’t get “seasons.” We get mild seasons, basically one long summer with a couple days or weeks of fluctuating weather. We still need to prepare for Fall in different ways though, just maybe not by winterizing our pipes, because there is no way we are getting snow.
-
Cozy Bedding
Take out those down comforters, warm sheets, and big blankets! Give all of them a good wash and store them close, so when those chilly nights arrive, you’ll have your blankets ready to go.
-
DRAFTY
Check that your windows and doors aren’t producing leaks and drafts is a must for this time of year
-
UP ON THE ROOF
Climb up on that roof and make sure there aren’t any damaged tiles or cracks as well as any debris. Fix what needs to be fixed, and clean that roof. TIP: check up on and clean those gutters while you’re up there!
-
TRIM
Everything grow, grow, grows during the summer! Check the trees, bushes, flowers, and if necessary trim them back — especially those trees, you don’t want to cause any damage.
-
Fall + Winter Toolbox
Now is a great time to rummage through your garage or shed and get all your fall and winter tools in one, easy accessible location. Nothing is worse than trekking through the snow in search for a snow shovel.
-
Plant Fall Bulbs for Spring Flowers
There are a variety of flowers to plant in the fall that will bloom in the spring. Also, applying fall lawn fertilizer will help prevent winter damage and spring weeds.
- H2O
Wet and windy days will be sparse but have been damaging in the past. You should make sure that rainwater downspouts are clear of obstructions and direct water away from foundations, walkways, and driveways. No floods!
- CLEAN
It’s not spring, but cleaning is a good idea. The holidays are coming up, which means you will be adding more items to your home. Purge! Find the holiday decor and clean the clutter while you are at it. Also, clean those humidifiers for when the harsh months come.
Getting your home ready for fall is a pretty easy and straightforward task. Enjoy the cooler weather and get ready for the holidays!
