San Diego in September

San Diego in September

The weather is warm, but not too hot. The nights are pleasant and tourists aren’t crowding all the beaches. September makes a great window for traveling to San Diego. The month is packed with alfresco dining, culinary happenings to celebrate California’s fall harvest, and various autumn beginnings.

As always, things look a little different this year, but each month more things open and as long as everyone is safe and practices good hygiene, we will continue towards a semblance of normalcy again.

Each month I have special fun events I want to show you so that you get the most out of this beautiful city!

Tour the California Tower in Balboa Park

Reopening later this month – September 16th – the CA tower is one of San Diego’s most iconic historic landmarks. Make the climb on a 40-minute guided tour highlighting the origins of Balboa Park and the histories of some of the many diverse communities that call San Diego home. All tours culminate in breathtaking 360-degree views of San Diego from the Tower’s eighth-floor viewing deck—from the Pacific Ocean in the west to the Cuyamaca Mountains in the east, and beyond.

Visit one of San Diego’s many Breweries

San Diego is known for their many craft breweries. Try a few and you might find a new favorite. A lot of them have food or food carts nearby and host outdoor seating while practicing social distancing. Getting out doesn’t have to be boring or hard 😉

Venture to the Mountains for Apple Picking

Fresh apples, apple pie, apple cider, apple fruit bars and more during apple season, typically September – mid October. Visit the historic town of Julian, about 60 miles northeast of San Diego, for a fun old-fashioned day. Take home a whole pie from the Julian Pie Company, visit the Julian Mining Company, and so much more. We enjoy walking around the town and exploring the shops.

Wine instead of Breweries

Tour Temecula Valley wine country on your own, or with a small group. These vineyards are outdoors and welcoming. Enjoy socially distanced fun with your small group and enjoy the great wine! Plus, exploring the outdoors and seeing another side of San Diego is a must.

Birch Aquarium

Reopening later this month – September 15 – they will open with new pathways and new procedures to keep guests and staff safe and healthy. Guest capacity will be limited, so advanced reservations are required for all guests, including members. Timed tickets are available online HERE.

Support Local Museum in October

The Rally will lead drivers to multiple stops in San Diego County, including JBA Speed Shop and Veloce Motors: The Vault in Miramar. October 10th!
